I am interested in the suitability of IMSMO in a < 10 user test environment in which the Notes client as well as the Outlook client will be used to manage Mail, Calendar and Tasks in a Mail file on the Domino Server.

I would like to connect with someone in the Yellowverse who has successfully deployed IMSMO. I need to test something and would value talking with a fellow peer, IBM Champion or IBM business partner.

I'd like to better understand the opportunities and caveats from those who have gone before.

I welcome your comments and feedback based on your experience.

Thanks.

Eric

Are you using IBM mail support for Microsoft Outlook?

Hi, Yes. I Configured a 64bit server and installed the addin.

worked immediately.

Happy to help

re: Are you using IBM mail support for Microsoft Outlook?

Thank you, Robert. That is encouraging news. Did you encounter any issues with continuing to use the Notes client to access the mail file? I read that the Outlook side will only store 30 days of email, so I am wondering if the full emails remain on the Notes side?

A couple of factors:

IMSMO Can't be installed on same Domino server as Traveler.

SSL is requried

64 bit Domino is required

Thanks, Richard, good to know. I missed the SSL requirement. I'm trying to get a handle on both the requirements and the effectiveness of the product (beyond IBM Marketing) so I can determine if it would be suitable for a small workgroup that needs both Notes and Outlook clients and even the abilityu to access the same mail file from both clients.

re: Are you using IBM mail support for Microsoft Outlook?

Thanks again, Richard. I think there was also a recent blog pont on PlanetLotus which I shall search for as well. What I'm most interested in now are user experiences, either from admins that set it up and are managing Mail support for Outlook, or from users who are using this daily to connect Outlook and Notes. Anything you can share from a user perspective would be helpful. Thanks!

The 30 day limit in Outlook affects what you see in Outlook but not what is stored on the mail server. A possible comparison is the limit on the number of days of mail that might display on your Smartphone vs. what is available to you through iNotes, Verse of the Notes client.

re: Are you using IBM mail support for Microsoft Outlook?

Thanks, Jay, good to know. I teach a productivity method that requires toital trust in one's tools and processes so it'd good to be clear on what will/won't be around.

So, am I correct to understand that if I file something in a "Pending" folder in Outlook that after 30 days it will disappear from the Outlook client, even though it will remain in the underlying Notes client?

As far as tasks, I see that IMSMO does not sync tasks at this time so I guess those items created in Outlook will live safely in Outlook... (I hope)

I haven't actually tried it but I understand the 30 day limit can be increased:

re: Are you using IBM mail support for Microsoft Outlook?

Thanks, Ian, very helpful. Overall, are you pleased with the integration of IMSMO and how it allows an end user to experience Outlook without knowledge of Notes or Domino? I guess what I'm asklng is does it feel seamless or does it feel like a clunky add-on?

Apologies for taking a while to come back to you.

We haven't really done anything in anger, so to speak. Just evaluation. Doesn't feel clunky to me.

re: Are you using IBM mail support for Microsoft Outlook?

Thank you Ian. You mentioned an evaluation. I'm curious if you ended up deciding to use IMSMO for any of your users on an ongoing basis? If not, wonder if you might share some reasons I should consider./ Thanks!
